Crispy Fried Okra Appetiser Recipe | Kurkuri Bhindi | Crispy Bhindi Appetiser Restaurant-Style

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

I have tasted quite a few Crispy Bhindi dishes, as it seems to be a trend these days. But The one I liked the most is my mother-in-law's recipe because it is simple and tasty! There are no over-powering spices, so you get the flavour of the fried okra, and THAT makes this dish delicious!

Give it a go! It's simple and yummy! ENJOY!!

Crispy Fried Okra Recipe Cooking Time: 20 Minutes (Approx)

Serves 2-3 People As A Snack

INGREDIENTS

  • 250g Fresh, Tender Okra (Bhindi)

  • 4 TBSP Corn Flour (Corn Starch)

  • 1TBSP Lemon Juice or less than 1/2 a Lemon Juiced

  • 3/4 - 1 tsp Salt

  • A Pinch of Red Chili Powder, Chaat Masala, Aamchur Powder as desired

  • Oil for Deep Frying

METHOD

Wash and dry the fresh okra completely. I put an emphasis on drying them because you don't want any moisture at all. This ensures they fry up crispy.

Cut off the stems & discard. Slice them into fairly thin strips and place into a bowl.

Add the corn flour and salt and mix with your hand to coat the strips evenly and to remove excess seeds.

Sprinkle the lemon juice on top and mix again.

Heat up your oil on a medium-high heat in a pan.

When the oil is nice and hot, start adding small handfuls of the okra, shaking off excess flour.

Don't add all the okra strips together. Do it in small batches to ensure they fry up nice and crisp.

Fry until they are golden-brown and crisp.

Remove them to a plate lined with newspaper and a paper towel.

Continue frying the remaining strips in the same way.

Sprinkle the crispy okra with your choice of red chili powder, chaat masala, aamchur powder or have them as they are!

They are a delicious crispy snack that goes very well with a cold beer.

These can be fried a few hours in advance if you are entertaining, so go ahead and enjoy!
