If you want to have a lemonade stand, this lemonade will bring your customers back with compliments!! Try it out!

Old Fashioned Lemonade Recipe Preparation Time: 1hour 15 Minutes (Approx)

Makes 4-6 Glass Fulls

INGREDIENTS

  • 5 Large Fresh Lemons

  • 225g or 1 Cup Granulated Sugar

  • 1.5L or 6 Cups Water

  • Pinch of Salt (optional)

METHOD

Wash the lemons thoroughly in warm water so that the lemon skins start to release their oils.

Peel the lemon skins using a potato peeler, being sure to avoid the white under the skin as much as possible, as the white part is bitter.

Place the lemon peels into a bowl, skin-side up

Sprinkle the sugar over the lemon peel and gently spread it to cover all the peel like shown in the video. DO NOT mix the sugar and the lemon peel together as the sugar will absorb the bitter taste from under the skin. Let this rest for 1 to 1 1/2 hours so the sugar can absorb the oils from the lemon peel.

In the meantime, juice the lemons and keep the juice aside.

After the sugar has had time to absorb the oils from the lemon peel, boil the water in a saucepan and pour the water over the sugar and lemon peel. Let this cool.

Sieve the sugar water and the freshly squeezed lemon juice into a jug and stir to mix. You can add a pinch of salt if you like.

Taste the lemonade. If you need to add more sugar, boil a little water and dissolve the sugar in water before adding it. If you need to add more lemon juice, make sure you sieve it before adding.

Serve the lemonade over a tall glass of ice. ENJOY!!
